Wintervention!

Minneapolis is known for it's plays and theatre performances so we got to see Warren Miller in a cool little theater downtown.  They had all the free shwag like in Colorado but their lift tickets are for different mountains and their big give away was for a weekend trip up in Michigan somewhere.  It was awesome to see Vail clips of course but made us homesick for some real skiing.

Minneapolis sculpture garden

We checked out "The Cities" for the first time last weekend and started with the sculpture garden.  There were cool art pieces and walkways right in the middle of the city.  After, we checked into our hotel to get ready for the Warren Miller movie.

Picnic lunch on the lake

It got a little windy and cold towards the end of are ride and we still hadn't had lunch yet.  So we found a lone dock and ate in a hurry.  It was a beautiful afternoon and we got to see bald eagles, some fish, and we think badgers.

More kayaking pictures

"Sea kayaking" on Lake Superior

Matt and I rented a tandem kayak and spent the afternoon exploring the shoreline of the lake between Ashland and Bayfield. There were lots of beautiful, rocky cliffs and little caves to check out.  But there was a lot of paddling and getting used to working together to make our boat go straight ahead!

Mystery solved!

What a great way to end a great trip! We had to paddle a ways to get to the lake but it was an awesome view right at sunset.

Brule river kayaking

The weather is still nice enough to get out on the water.  A co-worker took us down the Brule for an eight mile ride with mostly calm water and a few class 1 rapids.  Not quite the Arkansas and the shallow water didn't allow Matt to practice his roll but we still had fun!  April, our co-worker, told us that the river dumped into lake superior but we didn't know what to expect....

Meyer's beach hike

Meyer's beach hike

Meyer's beach hike, apostole's national park

We drove from Ashland up to apostle's national park which was right along the coast and a beautiful drive.  Our hike was fun also and it ended right at lake superior.  There were beautiful cliffs and caves to check out too.

Birthday!

We started off my birthday by going to the local Norske Nook for the best breakfast in town!  Work wasn't bad with lots of well wishes and flowers from Matt. After work we drove to Tagalong golf course close to home and had a great dinner.  Mom and dad sent a cake in the mail all the way from Colorado and it even had a candle with it!  It was a great birthday in Wisconsin!

Matt's evening pastime

If the sun is out Matt usually gets out on the lake after work but says that there is a lot more paddling on still water than rapids!

Bike ride in Duluth

(Sorry I am a little behind - this is from last weekend)
We found a great little ride on our way home last weekend.  There were quite patches of mud that were hard to get through but it still was a lot of fun.  It reminded us of Palmer Park in that it didn't have any signs and there were a lot of little off shoots but we eventually made it back to the car in time before the sun set and it got dark.
